SPRINGFIELD, MO — Fantastic Caverns has been featured in the new book Lodestar, #34 in THE SURVIVALIST Series, a sci-fi series based 650 years in the future, co-authored by local author Bob Anderson. Book Signing at the Springfield Cave.
Anderson will be at a book signing event at Fantastic Caverns on Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, with the public invited to attend. The location is appropriate as the cave in Springfield is the setting of the new “retreat” or base of operations for the story’s hero, John Thomas Rourke, as he struggles to save mankind and America’s future.
Anderson, of Seymour, MO, said: “The new Rourke Retreat needed to be equipped to handle more than 100 people, including family and other necessary staff, to be able to survive a minimum of three years. Fantastic Caverns was the optimal place for the new Retreat. It has tens of thousands of usable square feet of living space and crystal clear water fed by a perpetual, underground aquifer; and, in Lodestar, it has been forgotten by mankind and remains a secret to the world.”
Kirk Hansen, former Public Affairs Director for Fantastic Caverns, said: “As I began to read The Survivalist, #34, I fully expected to be a little handicapped because I was not familiar with the previous volumes. My thinking was completely off target. The book picked up in the aftermath of a tragedy and the survivors were coping with the consequences. Civilization, as it had been, was no more. The words and thoughts showed a combination of imagination, attention to detail and ‘what if’ thinking. I finished the book in one evening and am eager for the next in the series to arrive.”
THE SURVIVALIST Series, originally written by Jerry Ahern in the 1980s and 90s, sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. After Ahern’s passing in 2012, his wife Sharon asked Anderson to join her in bringing the series back to life. He began co-authoring the series with her starting with book #30.
Anderson added: “Now, after the nuclear war sounded the end of the world, John Thomas Rourke – The Survivalist – and his family continue battling the minions of evil and the potential destruction of the human race. Jerry and Sharon Ahern’s epic adventure story continues in a new age, almost 700 years in the future. An era, remarkably like our own… the destruction that was dealt to the planet earth has healed. However, civilization remains in peril, thanks to – more than anything else – the nature of man.”
With the renewed series, action and adventure are woven into a tapestry that includes historical data, a splash of science fiction, a twist of family values and the colors of the wind that promise possibilities for mankind – if John Thomas Rourke and his family can survive.
